Straylight Run in the Studio
Straylight Run are currently in the studio recording their new album. The cool thing is, they have setup Flickr and YouTube accounts to keep fans posted throughout the recording process. That's really great idea, more bands seriously need to do this. (Thanks to AP.net for dropping this knowledge on me)

Platinum FOB
Pete of Fall Out Boy sent Jason Tate of AP.net a personal plaque of their Platinum certified (selling over 1 million copies) From Under the Cork Tree. Very cool. And congrats to FOB on all their success. They've earned and deserve every bit of their success.

Under the Muck
Nick just pointed me to this highly amusing parody of the "new" Decemberists album, Under the Muck. I could totally see any of the proposed song titles being actual an actual Decemberist song and the guy that actually wrote lyrics and performed the songs did a really good job.

(Not a) Red Letter Day
The Get Up Kids are releasing a final live CD and then moving on. Saw this coming for a while what with Matt's second band The New Amsterdams, and James fronting Reggie and the Full Effect and playing keyboard with New Found Glory, but nonetheless it's pretty sad. Their album Something to Write Home About was what got me into punk/emo music back in high school when Mike first sent me some of their mp3s, and it remains one of my favorite all time albums. And so I say, so long to TGUK and good luck.

Congratulations Zach
Congratulations to Zach Braff on winning the 2005 Best First Feature IFP Independent Spirit Award for Garden State! Zach's Garden State Soundtrack also won a Grammy for "Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For A Motion Picture, Television, Or Other Visual Media." I highly recommend the movie if you haven't seen it, and you should give the soundtrack a listen too; it's filled with really good songs by really talented bands. Zach has impeccable taste in music, which you can often hear on the song choices for Scrubs, such as last week's episode which ended with Windmills by Glen Phillips.

Space
Being Tuesday, Apple added new songs to the iTunes Music Store. So it was about 9:50 and I had Distributed Systems at 10, but I thought I'd see what new songs were added this week. The single Space from Something Corporate's album North (due out Oct 21) was added to the store. A couple clicks and less than 1 minute later and I was on my way to class, listening to the song on my iPod. How cool is that?

Something Corporate and ITMS
More intersection between the websites of bands I like and Apple. I was looking at Something Corporate's new website and in their downloads section they links to purchase their single Forget December. Specifically, there is a link to the iTunes Music Store. The link simply conducts a search in the ITMS for "Forget December" and "Something Corporate". The song itself is not currently available there, but their full length Leaving Through the Window is. I think the sight is brand new today, so maybe the track is going to be added to the store on Tuesday. Even if it's not, I like seeing the various lesser known bands I like mentioning and working with Apple.

Fall Out Boy and Apple Store
No one except me is going to care about this, but I was just looking at the Fall Out Boy website and they posted one of their updates from the Apple Store in Houston. Cool.
